Focal Community Services hosted its annual Christmas celebration last Thursday, titled “Christmas in the Park”. Around 130 people attended the free community event at Browns Park, North Ipswich, including Focal clients, their families, organisational life members, and community members and representatives. “This was a wonderful event for everyone involved,” says Mickael Blanc, Focal’s CEO. “Christmas is about friends, family and the community coming together to celebrate the holiday season.” In true Ipswich fashion, temperatures topped 35 degrees on Thursday. A revolutionary new smartphone app is helping people with disability navigate their way around Brisbane in an Australian first. Brisbane-based disability support service Carers Link, in partnership with Disability Support Queensland, has launched Access 4000: a smartphone app which provides disability access information on some of Brisbane’s venues and infrastructure. The app highlights access features like wheelchair and pram ramps, disabled toilets and parking, and support for low vision or blindness. True’s Feel Safe app profiles the stories of six young people and uses interactive games to teach personal safety in a fun and interactive way.
