About Us Focal Community Living Inc (Focal Community Services) has supported people with a disability, their families and carers for 50 years across the Ipswich Region and Brisbane’s Western Suburbs. Focal delivers services to people of all ages and needs in their homes and the community supporting a life of independence and choice. Focal is currently seeking applications from individuals who have a commitment to excellence and a desire to contribute to effective governance. Successful applicants will bring alignment with the purpose of the organisation and have capacity to devote time and energy to the position of a Board Member. Board Activities Board activities include strategic planning, risk oversight, reviewing financial planning and performance and Board development. Meetings are held at least six times a year. In addition, Board workshops may be scheduled from time to time as required and Board members also serve on at least one Board committee. Our volunteer Board are highly valued for their contribution ensuring the vision, mission and strategic directions of the organisation are aligned and ensuring all governance standards are met. A position on our board provides a genuine opportunity to contribute to the wider community and genuinely make a difference for the better in the lives of people with a disability. Eligibility Criteria To ensure a depth of skills and experience the Focal Board has determined that applications to fill casual Board vacancies for 2024 must meet: one or more of the following Eligibility Criteria: • experience in NDIS model of supports at a leadership level • Legal expertise at a Senior/Executive level • experience in Information Technology/Technology Consulting at a Senior/Executive level • Participation in the non-government and/or human service sectors at a leadership level or above; And possess one or more of the following general skills, competencies and/or experience: • lived experience as a person with a disability and/or carer • live in the West Moreton or Western Suburb region of Brisbane; • leadership, vision and ability to champion Focal Community Living Inc’s vision • an understanding of the principles and practices of effective corporate governance including strategic planning and direction setting • experience in developing strategy and building new revenue sources • experience in building partnerships, both corporate and government In addition to these specific Eligibility Criteria, an applicant is eligible for appointment who; 1. is at least 18 years of age 2. is not an employee of or in receipt of fees from Focal Community Living Inc 3. is not ineligible to be a Director under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) or the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission Act 2012 (Cth). Eligible applicants will also be required to undertake a satisfactory National Police Check, Working with Children Check and hold a current Director ID.
