Focal can help you get NDIS-ready in five easy steps.

Check your eligibility

Look at the NDIS Access checklist to help you understand if you meet the access requirements to become a participant in the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). It will take 10 – 20 minutes to complete.

Think about your needs, strengths, interests, barriers and goals

Think about who and what you want in your or your child’s life now and in the future
Identify your strengths, interests, networks, opportunities and barriers

Start planning

Focal staff work closely with participants and their families to prepare individuals to develop their first plan. This is based on the NDIA planning documents that the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) Planners use. It records your present situation and identifies your goals, dreams and aspirations in a simple format. In trial sites, participants have found they are able to benefit from the NDIS more fully if they have already done some planning before meeting with the NDIA Planner.

By completing this task, you will be better prepared for when you do meet with the NDIA Planner.

Take your plan to the NDIA

Once the NDIS rolls out in your area, take your work to your NDIA interview.

Review your plan

It is important to review your plan when necessary to make sure you are getting the right supports as your life changes.

If you are a person with a disability or a family member or friend you can also:

  • Get involved in a Participant Readiness workshop or activity offered by one of the nine organisations assisting people with disability, their family and carers for the NDIS more information is at
  • Watch what others are doing with the NDIS in trial sites. There are videos on You tube (search NDIS)
  • Speak with Focal or your existing provider to prepare for NDIS
